Hello everyone. I’m a vet currently studying for a master’s degree. In February 2025, I had the opportunity to participate in the Sakura Science Program (SSP), which focused on the theme of One Health and Zoonosis. This was my first visit to Japan, and I was warmly welcomed by the staff, leaving a lasting impression on me. One Health is an interdisciplinary approach that integrates various scientific fields to promote the health of humans, animals, and the environment. During my visit, I toured the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Engineering. Each faculty showcased research and innovations that contributed to the One Health concept, expanding my understanding of its applications. I also learned about the zoonosis situation in Japan and had the chance to compare it with the situation in Thailand. Engaging with various research lectures broadened my perspective, offering new ideas and methods that I can apply to my future research. In addition, I visited an animal hospital where I discovered that cancer is a common disease in animals in Japan. We discussed the types of cancer frequently encountered and the treatment methods used. At the Faculty of Agriculture, I explored an aquaponics system, which combines aquatic and hydroponic methods. I found this system to be a great approach, as it circulates water from fish farming to nourish hydroponically grown plants. The most memorable experience of the program was a lecture on a device designed for small droplet removal using photocatalysis. This device aims to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 through coughing and sneezing. I had the opportunity to assemble the device myself, marking my first experience working with hand tools. I was surprised to learn that the materials used to build the device are easily accessible in everyday life, making it possible for anyone to replicate and adapt for other infectious diseases. Overall, this valuable experience I gained from SSP has greatly expanded my knowledge and understanding.
