At the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology and the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo, innovative research applying cutting-edge science and technology is being conducted in the fields of humanities and social sciences. Through this internship program, students had the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in the humanities and social sciences through special lectures and facility visits, while also deepening their understanding of the historical relationship between Sri Lanka and Japan.

We hosted graduate students and faculty member from the University of Malaya, and implemented the program focused on Field-based Tropical Medicine Research for Young Scientists from Malaysia and Japan. It offered participants a comprehensive experience integrating cutting-edge technology with traditional field methods, such as practical training in creating field equipment using 3D printing technology, or conducted actual tick surveys in natural habitats, learning efficient sampling techniques that enhance collection results.

At Tmsuk Corporation, a company that develops robots to support human activities and daily life in areas such as elderly care, disaster rescue, and agriculture, the company’s president shared the company’s philosophy on robotics and its products, followed by an engaging Q&A session.

We invited seven researchers who are conducting research on proteomic and metabolomic analyses at the field of urology in Chang Gung University. They shared and discussed the latest information on biomarkers of urologic-related disease and visited the university hospital and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences to observe a medical practice that provides safe and high-quality medical cares, and pharmaceutical education. Moreover, they visited Shimadzu company and its foundation memorial museum to learn the latest development of clinical and analytical machines and technology.

We invited a total of eight people for a 20-day research internship in the field of materials science, including three graduate students from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, three undergraduate students from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, and one accompanying faculty from each school, and conducted research internships at the University of Tsukuba and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) as part of this exchange plan, including visits to KEK, AIST, and held discussions with the accompanying faculties.

Ten students and two assistant professors from Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering backgrounds from three different institute/university in India namely Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Science and Technology University, University of Mysore and Central Food Technological Research Institute participated in this SSP program. To ensure the program benefited students of all branches, interdisciplinary laboratory trainings were planned for each day from the areas of life science, food science, environmental science, chemistry, and Medical AI.

They also visited the university hospital, department of pharmacy and observed a medical practice that provides safe and high-quality medical cares.
