FY2024Sophia University "Sustainable aquaculture fisheries and environmental literacy linking Japan and Micronesia"

Sophia University invited a delegation of aquaculture specialists and government personnel from Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia to Japan. The activities included a presentation by, and discussion with, a representative of WWF Japan regarding sustainable oyster farming in Miyagi Prefecture, a field visit to Ama-chō, Shimane Prefecture to explore sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management practices in a remote island context, and two workshops held at Sophia University that highlighted discussions on blue food potentials, sustainable aquaculture, and collaborative approaches between Japan and Micronesia.

FY2024Tottori University "Invitation from Tajikistan for Sakura Science Program"

From October 5 to 12, the Arid Land Research Center of Tottori University accepted eight researchers and students from the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. Six young researchers and two graduate students from the Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics under the Academy learned about efforts by the people in Tottori in research, development and social implementation, especially focusing on sweet potatoes.

Seishin Gakuen Junior/Senior High School has been a Super Science High School (SSH) since 2007. For almost a decade, it has maintained a sister-school relationship with Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Phitsanulok (henceforth PCCPL). This has included cooperative participation in various science-related events as well as the Sakura Science Program. In November of this year, as part of the Sakura Science Program, a group of four teachers and four students from PCCPL arrived in Japan for a six-day visit.

FY2024Kwansei Gakuin University "Experience in Advanced Nanotechnology for the Sustainable Energy Society"

From September 11th (Wed) to 17th (Tue), 2024, we have invited students from Biyani Group of Colleges, India to Kobe Sanda Campus, Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) for an international exchange program, the Sakura Science Program sponsored by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Invited students experienced experimental and theoretical studies on fuel and solar cells for a sustainable energy society and visited the world's largest synchrotron radiation facility SPring-8, a killer tool for the characterization and design of materials.

FY2024Report from National Institute of Genetics, Research Organization of Information and Systems "Biodiversity Resource Management in the Genome Information Era"

Eight graduate students and two faculty members from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) were invited to the National Institute of Genetics (NIG) of the Research Organization of Information and Systems (ROIS) and the RIKEN Yokohama Campus for six days from 23 to 28 September 2024. The UKM and NIG have signed a second MOU already in 2023 and jointly organized an online workshop on the subject of bioinformatics and bioresources in February 2024. This year's participants were selected from more than three times the number of applicants.

FY2024Report from University of Tsukuba "Joint research program with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology"

Due to climate change, Malaysia in recent years has been facing serious disaster and environmental problems that did not occur in the past. One of these problems is soil runoff and water pollution caused by landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. In this program, students and young researchers from Malaysia were invited to Japan for practical training in microalgae experiments, laboratory visits, and aimed to stimulate international joint research with University of Tsukuba.

FY2024Report from Hokkaido University "Japan-China research exchange on artificial olfactory sensor materials and systems"

Artificial olfactory sensors, which use hundreds of thousands of volatile molecules found in nature as information source, have been attracting attention in recent years as a sensor technology to collect chemical information of "smell" that has not been used so far. In this exchange program, we invited one faculty member and six graduate students from China for seven days from August 4 to 10, 2024, to conduct a research collaboration on circuit implementation of artificial olfactory sensor materials.
