I am Naftali Kiprono, a doctoral student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). My journey with the Sakura Science Program (SSP) in December 2023 was a transformative experience that left an indelible mark on my perspective. Immersed in the rich cultural tapestry of Kyoto University and the vibrant streets of Kyoto City, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of creativity, tradition, and forward-thinking.

At Kyoto University, I had the privilege of engaging with leading researchers and scholars who are at the forefront of their fields. From exploring cutting-edge supervision to participating in thought-provoking discussions, I gained insights into the intricate nuances of scientific inquiry and discovery.

Beyond academia, Kyoto City offered a captivating blend of ancient charm and modern dynamism. Wandering through the historic streets lined with temples, shrines, and traditional machiya houses, I felt a profound sense of connection to Japan's cultural heritage. Moreover, Kyoto's bustling urban center pulsated with energy, innovation, and a spirit of entrepreneurship. Whether strolling through bustling markets or experiencing the tranquillity of traditional tea ceremonies, every moment was an opportunity to immerse myself in the essence of Japanese culture and hospitality.

The Sakura Science Program not only broadened my academic horizons but also deepened my appreciation for the interconnectedness of global communities. Through interactions with fellow participants from diverse backgrounds, I forged lasting friendships and cultural exchanges that transcended borders and enriched my worldview.

As I reflect on my time in Kyoto, I am filled with gratitude for the invaluable experiences and insights gained through the Sakura Science Program. It has inspired me to pursue my academic and professional aspirations with renewed vigor, armed with the knowledge and cultural understanding nurtured during my time in Japan.
