As an MSc student in Biotechnology at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), I had the privilege of participating in the Sakura Science program earlier this year (March, 2024), which took place at Utsunomiya University in Tochigi Prefecture. This immersive experience provided me with invaluable insights into Japan's scientific prowess and technological innovation. Engaging with esteemed Research Scientists and Associate Professors, I was exposed to cutting-edge research methodologies and state-of-the-art facilities that broadened my perspective on the possibilities within my field of study.

During the program, I had the opportunity to delve into practical laboratory sessions and engaging discussions, gaining a deeper understanding of Japan's advanced research landscape. The level of discipline and respect observed in every aspect of Japanese culture left a profound impact on me, reinforcing the importance of meticulousness and diligence in scientific endeavours. Additionally, the program facilitated meaningful exchanges with Japanese colleagues, fostering cross-cultural collaboration and expanding my global network of peers.

Inspired by my experiences in Japan, I am driven to apply the insights gained to address pressing challenges in my home country, Kenya. With a focus on agriculture and biotechnology, I aspire to leverage Japan's advanced research methodologies and technological innovations to contribute to sustainable development initiatives and promote socio-economic growth. The knowledge and skills acquired during the Sakura Science program have equipped me with the tools necessary to make meaningful contributions to scientific research and innovation in Kenya and beyond. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!!
