How did Sakura Science Plan play a role in your study / research in Japan?
First of all, the Sakura Science Plan (SSP) let me know about this country, Japan. In the summer of 2016, I came to Japan for the first time under SSP. A one-week trip to Tokyo made me very interested in this country. I liked the clean and tidy streets, advanced science and technology and enthusiastic friends here.
Secondly, SSP has given me an interest to do research in Japan. I studied architecture and I took a series of real estate courses at Meikai University during the program. I learned that universities in Japan have accumulated a lot of unique experiences in this field. After 1.5 years, I got a chance to study overseas for a short time. I did not hesitate to choose the University of Tokyo.
Finally, I met Professor Suto and many friends through the program, and they provided a lot of care and help for my study and life in Japan. I got a lot of guidance when I was preparing for the application. They helped me translate when I had a language problem and also took me to many places to eat during my stay in Japan. I am very grateful to them.
Please describe your comments freely related to your life in Japan.
As an intern, I did a short-term research at the Urban Design Lab in the University of Tokyo, under the guidance of Professor Nishimura and Professor Nakajima. They gave me very careful guidance and took me to visit several projects in Tokyo, such as the Yanesen district and the Kagurazaka district. Because I am very interested in the urban revitalization and heritage protection, the experiences in Tokyo gave references for our work in Beijing. What impressed me a lot is the wide vision of the professors. Many of their opinions refreshed my mind. They are very familiar with the development of Japan and China in this field.
As for life, Tokyo is a place where a person can live well alone, by oneself. I fully enjoyed the convenient stores all over the city. But sometimes I still felt lonely, especially during the Lunar New Year in China. Fortunately, I met Mr. Ma, a friend I first met during the SSP. He was a Chinese student studying at Meikai University. He took me to eat Chinese food in Tokyo and brought me to enjoy life here. That was really memorable.
Please describe your message to people who are going to participate in this program.
Fortunately, I started my journey to Japan in the 2016 Sakura Science Plan (SSP) which benefited me a lot. I hope everyone can enjoy the time freely here. I believe that you will have the opportunity to come here again to study and live in some way!
