How did Sakura Science Plan play a role in your study / research in Japan?

I had the opportunity to visit Shizuoka University in August 2016 under the Sakura Science Plan. As a nanotechnology student at university, the lab exchange program was an opportune one that elucidated upon the world-standard advanced research being carried out in Shizuoka University and in extension, Japan. Through both, the visits to various laboratories and through the research colloquium during the program, I got a chance to interact with experienced professors and current graduate students whilst getting acquainted with the research facilities in Shizuoka University. By the end of the Sakura Science Plan, I was quite sure about returning to Japan for my graduate work, under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Moraru here at Shizuoka University. The Sakura Science Program helped me with this important decision.

Please describe your comments freely related to your life in Japan.

Life in Japan is great. From the academic stand point, students get a co-operative and a nurturing environment to learn and conduct good research. The courses are well rounded and the professors are encouraging and vastly knowledgeable. I am happy to say, that even on the research front, as a graduate student, I am guided by a supportive and helpful supervisor. Having availed the MEXT Scholarship, one is able to concentrate solely on research and doesn't need to split time with part-time jobs. This is very convenient. From the social standpoint, Japan is peaceful and the people kind. Japanese culture is different and one can learn a lot from it. Here at Shizuoka University, the international students are also many and I've gotten a chance to understand the points-of-view of people from several countries on various topics. All in all, both personally and professionally (academically), I find that there is great opportunity to grow as an individual, here in Japan.

Please describe your message to people who are going to participate in this program.

As in point 1 and 2 above, it's quite evident that life in Japan is rather idyllic. Other than the slight language barrier, living in Japan is an experience worth taking. I highly recommend it.
