Hello!! My name is Theresia Dwi Lestari Asa, an undergraduate student majoring in Agricultural Microbiology from Indonesia. I had the opportunity to participate in the Sakura Science Program (SSP), which became one of the most meaningful academic and personal experiences in my academic journey. Through this program, I gained valuable exposure to international research culture, particularly in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology.

One of the most interesting aspects of the program was my experience at Osaka University. Observing laboratory environments, research discussions, and experimental approaches at the molecular and cellular levels broadened my understanding of how microbiology supports innovation in biotechnology, health sciences, and other interdisciplinary areas.

What made this experience particularly impactful was the emphasis on research methodology and scientific rigor. Discussions with professors and researchers highlighted the importance of precision, reproducibility, and critical thinking in microbiological research. The way research problems were approached systematically and collaboratively challenged me to rethink how I design experiments and analyze scientific data. This exposure encouraged me to strengthen my analytical skills and to view microbiology not only as an applied science but also as a core discipline that drives technological advancement.

Beyond the academic component, the cultural and interpersonal experiences were equally enriching. Interacting with Japanese students and fellow international participants allowed me to exchange perspectives and learn from diverse academic backgrounds. I was deeply impressed by the professionalism, discipline, and strong research ethics demonstrated throughout the program. These values inspired me to reflect on my own academic habits and motivated me to adopt a more structured, responsible, and proactive approach to my studies.

After completing SSP, my academic interests have become more focused on integrating microbiology with biotechnology. I aspire to further develop my skills in microbiological research and to apply this knowledge in interdisciplinary contexts, including but not limited to agriculture. In the future, I hope to pursue advanced studies and contribute to scientific development in Indonesia while maintaining international collaboration. Overall, SSP significantly shaped my academic mindset, strengthened my motivation, and encouraged me to think more globally about my future as a scientist.
