My name is Vu Thi Thanh Thuy, a proud alumna of the Faculty of Food Technology at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. In July 2023, I was incredibly fortunate to have the chance to visit Yamagata, Japan, and that experience has left a lasting impression on my heart.
From the very first moment I arrived in Japan, I was overwhelmed by its beauty. Everything—from the breathtaking landscapes to the subtle, respectful way people preserve their culture—was deeply moving. I was especially touched by the care and cleanliness in food preparation, something that resonated with my background in food technology. Moreover, what truly fascinated me was learning about Yamagata University's innovative rice farming project, where organic waste is effectively used to cultivate rice. It was a perfect combination of science, sustainability, and tradition—something I had never seen before.
Even though the trip lasted only one week, the memories still remain vivid. I often find myself thinking back to those days, feeling nostalgic and grateful. It wasn’t just about discovering a new country; it was about connecting with people who share a passion for science, sustainability, and cross-cultural exchange.
In April 2025, I received an email from Sakura Science Club announcing an upcoming meeting in Vietnam. The moment I saw it, I knew I didn’t want to hesitate anymore. I immediately registered to become a coordinator for the program. I felt it was the perfect opportunity to once again meet those wonderful people, now in my own homeland, and to reconnect with others who had similar life-changing experiences through the Sakura Science Program.
Now, being part of this big, warm family—the Sakura Science Club—fills me with happiness and pride. It reminds me that although our journeys may begin in different places, they can lead us to the same path of learning, sharing, and building a better future together. I’m deeply grateful for everything this program has given me: knowledge, inspiration, and most importantly, lifelong connections.
