Participating in the Sakura Science Program (SSP) in Japan was a truly transformative experience that broadened my academic perspective and deepened my cultural understanding. I am currently pursuing research in photocatalysis at Anna University, focusing on the development of advanced catalysts for green hydrogen generation and environmental remediation. My long-term goal is to contribute toward sustainable energy technologies and foster global collaborations in clean hydrogen research.
During SSP, I had the unique opportunity to visit Osaka University and interact with leading scientists in materials and energy research. One of the most inspiring moments of the program was meeting Prof. Susumu Kitagawa, the 2025 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, whose pioneering contributions to metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have profoundly influenced the field of materials science. Our brief discussion about the potential of porous materials in clean energy applications left a lasting impression on me and strengthened my resolve to pursue high-impact, curiosity-driven research.
The program also allowed me to experience Japan's remarkable research culture–characterized by precision, discipline, and teamwork. Interacting with fellow participants from diverse academic backgrounds fostered a spirit of global collaboration and mutual respect. These experiences reshaped how I approach science, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and interdisciplinary thinking.
SSP has been a milestone in my academic journey. It not only enhanced my technical and cultural awareness but also inspired me to build lasting research connections between India and Japan. I am deeply grateful to the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the organizers for providing this valuable platform that empowers young researchers to dream and innovate globally.
