Konichiwa! My name is Chuah Yee Jia and I am from Sultan Ismail Secondary School. I am really honoured to have the opportunity to participate in the Sakura Science High School Exchange Program in October 2024.
I have always been passionate about science and innovation, particularly in the fields of biochemistry and robotics. The Sakura Science Program (SSP) provided me with an incredible platform to explore these interests in another country. It was an eye-opening trip that not only enhanced my scientific knowledge but also broadened my perspective on international collaboration and research.
I must admit that participating in SSP was a transformative experience. During the program, I had the privilege of visiting top-tier research institutions and universities in Japan, where I witnessed groundbreaking advancements in various scientific fields such as cybernics research. The opportunity to interact with researchers and experts exposed me to cutting-edge technologies and innovative approaches, which were completely new and inspiring to me. Thus, I truly admire Japan’s dedication to research and technological advancements.
In addition, SSP impacted me beyond Japan's remarkable scientific advancements because I am also mesmerized by the beauty of Japanese culture. I was fascinated by how Japan integrates its rich traditions so well into a highly developed modern society. From the harmonious view of ancient temples standing alongside futuristic skyscrapers to the precision, respect and discipline practiced in daily life, every aspect of Japanese culture reflects the values of heritage and innovation. It was stunning to see and experience how cultural values and technological advancements coexist to create a sustainable and meaningful future.
Furthermore, one of the most memorable moments was getting to interact with students from different countries, including other SSP participants and Japanese high school students. This exchange of ideas and cultural perspectives emphasized the importance of global cooperation in addressing scientific challenges. We exchanged ideas and continued staying in touch until today!
SSP has greatly influenced my academic and career aspirations. Moving forward, I am more certain than before to contribute to scientific research, particularly in biochemistry and drug development. Additionally, I hope to engage in more international research collaborations and explore opportunities in Japan. Besides that, SSP has also inspired me to actively promote STEM education among students in my community, encouraging my peers and juniors to pursue science and innovation.
Last but not least, SSP has been a wonderful experience and I am deeply grateful for this opportunity. I look forward to applying the knowledge and ideas gained from SSP in my future. I hope to contribute to the advancement of science and technology while fostering strong connections between Malaysia and Japan as one of the members of Sakura Science Club.
Arigato gozaimasu! Thank you very much!
