I am Anitharaj, a faculty from Global Academy of Technology (GAT). Participating in the Sakura Science Program (SSP) held at Shizuoka University from August 3 to 9, 2025, was an inspiring and deeply fulfilling experience for me as an educator and researcher.

Returning to the Research Institute of Electronics—where I completed my Ph.D. in silicon photodetectors with surface plasmon antennas in 2020—felt both nostalgic and motivating. This visit allowed me not only to reconnect with my academic roots but also to introduce my students from Global Academy of Technology (GAT), Bengaluru, to the rich research culture of Japan.

The program was exceptionally well structured, beginning with our warm welcome at Shizuoka University (SU) by Prof. Hiroaki Satoh and an interactive welcome dinner with SU students. This informal setting immediately helped build meaningful connections and created a comfortable atmosphere for cultural exchange. Throughout the week, I witnessed my students opening up, asking questions, and engaging actively in discussions—something that made me proud as a teacher.

Overall, SSP has had a profound impact on my professional journey. It strengthened my belief in global exposure as a catalyst for student growth and academic excellence. It also reaffirmed my connection with Shizuoka University and opened new possibilities for future collaborations, joint research activities, and student exchange programs.

I express my sincere gratitude to the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and Shizuoka University for offering us this life-changing opportunity. I also express my sincere thanks to Prof. Hiroaki Satoh, Associate Professor, Research Institute of Electronics, Shizuoka University, Japan. I am confident that this program will significantly influence my teaching, research approach, and long-term vision for India–Japan scientific cooperation.

This experience will remain one of the most meaningful milestones in my academic career.
