次世代シーケンサーを高度活用した世界規模課題解決のための国際共同研究

2018年7月1日～7月21日の21日間、さくらサイエンスプログラムの支援を受けて、マレーシアプトラ大学から大学院生1名、マレーシア国立大学から大学院生1名、マレーシアのスルタンザイナルアビディン大学から大学院生1名、マレーシアのスルタンイドリス教育大学から教員1名、合計4名を招へいし、共同研究活動を実施しました。
この活動の目的は、本学大学院生命体工学研究科内に設置されている、次世代シーケンサーやリアルタイムPCRなどの先端機器を、この国際共同研究活動に活用し、先端技術の伝授を行うと共に、研究技術開発に必要な基礎データの収集を加速することでした。マレーシアの各研究室で行っている環境試料を対象として、細菌群集構造などを明らかにし、パーム油工場排水が微生物生態に及ぼす影響の検証やパーム産業廃棄物を活用した微細藻類の炭素固定に及ぼす細菌生態の影響の検証などを明らかにするための国際共同研究を進めました。
7月1日に来日後、はじめに電車・バスの乗り方、北九州市内ホテルから本学研究科への行き方、およびイスラム教徒向けの食事処を教示しました。
7月2日以降は、はじめにオリエンテーションや自己紹介などを行ったあと、3週間の期間、各サンプルからのRNA抽出、そのRNAの電気泳動によるクォリティチェック、分光光度計を用いた濃度測定、リアルタイムPCR、次世代シーケンサーの運転などを進め、得られたデータの解析などを行いました。
7月20日には、3週間の活動に対する成果報告会を実施し、招へい者4名が活動を通して得たデータを本プログラムに参加した全員で討論しました。討論後は、修了書授与と送別会を行い、この3週間の活動を締めました。4名の招へい者は、7月21日に無事に帰国しました。
本プログラムは、次世代シーケンサーという最先端機器に対して、日本人学生と協働に研修を行うことで、招へい者に対する技術提供のみならず、共に活動した日本人学生の国際交流マインドを開花させ、育成するという一石二鳥の成果が得られました。
本プログラムに参加した全ての若手研究者が、将来海外でも臆することなく活躍できる技術者へと成長してくれるものと信じます。本プログラム実施の機会を与えた頂いたさくらサイエンスプログラム、そして本プログラムの実施を支えて頂いた本学のスタッフの皆さんに深く感謝申し上げます。

Mostly I am happy with the program. But I feel sad because I couldn't watch Hanabi which I was looking forward to watch since in Malaysia. Everyone is so polite and helpful. I would like to express my biggest gratitude and thanks to Maeda sensei, Asyifah-san, Toya-san, Kazuo-san, Moriya-san, Hoshiko-san, Fujie-san, Hirano-san :) the MiSeq members >_< and all lab members for all the care and help. The foods are amazing eventhough I missed Malaysian food heheh. I wish to come again inshaAllah. I love the nature, environment, the flowers, mountain, and all. Asyifah-san been a great help and a very good instructor. Would love to learn more from her. I'm looking forward for more future collaboration :) Arigatou gozaimasu. Otsukaresama deshita :)

I am really satisfied with the whole journey. The flight was good. I really love Japan and will definitely come here again either to visit or applying as a phd student here. I really apprecite the knowledge shared by assyifa san and the other labmates. very new knowledge to me that will cherish forever. I love the people, sceneries, culture and the warm welcome here. Thank you so much for the oppurtunity given. 3 weeks is never enough :) arigatou.
