ラオス国立大学建築学部生との建築設計・計画ワークショップ

芝浦工業大学建築学部では、さくらサイエンスプログラムによる助成のもとで、2018年2月21日から3月1日まで、ラオス国立大学建築学部からスタッフ2名、学生10名を招へいして、建築設計・計画ワークショップを中心とした国際交流プログラムを以下のように実施しました。
① デザインサーベイ
高密度集住の下町、月島で2月21日、22日の2日間に渡り、デザインサーベイを行いました。東京の臨海部は、現在の日本で最も人口集積が著しい場所であり、2020年の東京オリンピックを契機にさらなる再開発や建物の高層化が進む一方で、既存の木造高密度集住地区は大きな影響を受けることが予想されます。
そこで、既存の伝統的木造住宅やそれらが連続して生み出される景観の特徴を調べ、その特徴を活かしながら住み続けられる小住宅を設計するというプログラムです。サーベイ当日は雪が降り、ラオスの学生たちにはとても寒かったと思いますが、本学の学生と協力して、建物やまちなみの詳しい調査をしました。
② エクスカージョン：お台場、六本木、上野
設計ワークショップの合間に、台場で臨海の大規模な再開発、六本木で都市緑化、上野で文化施設の実際を見学する機会を設けました。内陸国であるラオスには海がありませんが、近年、ラオスの主要な河川であるメコン川の大規模な開発が問題になっています。また、近年の急激な都市化は、首都ビエンチャンの居住環境を大きく変えています。こうした問題意識で、日本の湾岸開発と都市居住の最先端の事例を見てもらうことが目的です。上野では、国立西洋美術館を見学し、ラオスの旧宗主国であるフランスが誇る建築家ル・コルビュジェの世界遺産に認定された国立西洋美術館を見学しました。
③ 設計案の作成：日本人、ラオス人による共同作業
設計案の作成は、本学学生とラオス国立大学の学生の混成チームで行いました。短い時間のなかで、能率的に役割分担を決め、それぞれが集中して作業を進めていました。ラオス人学生の建築設計スキルは、スケッチとCADのどちらも極めてレベルが高く、日本人の学生は大きな衝撃を受けていたようです。共通言語の英語を使いながら意思疎通をはかり、設計作業を進めるのは両国の学生にとってそれほど簡単ではないようです。しかし、多くの学生が積極的に自分の意見を述べ、また、相手の意見を聞き、ディスカッションする光景が毎日みられました。設計作業の途中では、ラオス大の先生によるラオスの建築に関する特別講義を開催し、日本とは異なる建築文化を知るよい機会になりました。
④ 成果発表
ワークショップの最後に、各チームの成果発表を行いました。それぞれのチームが成果をA1のパネルにまとめ、さらに模型を作成しました。発表は英語で行い、各チームの全員が協力して作品の特徴や住まい方について発表を行いました。その後に、両国のスタッフや学生からコメントや質問が発せられました。
10日間という短い期間でしたが、両国の学生にとっては、設計ワークショップばかりでなく、互いの交流、異文化体験という意味でもたいへん実りの多い経験になりました。今後も継続して、同様の活動を続けていければ幸いです。

● Mr. Anouluck DAVONG (3rd year Architectural Design student)
Before arrived at Japan, I was just a student who studied and learned knowledge only from my country, from books, internet, pictures and people around me. Like a man trying to see the outside world through a key hole and when I have got an opportunity to be one of the representatives of my faculty to travel to Japan. It’s like the door has opened. I’ve seen and experienced many new things in Japan (culture, art, architecture…). And I also have met new friends. The memories that I have from this workshop in Japan will be with me forever. The knowledge that I have learned from GPBL workshop, I will share with Lao students. Lastly, I also would like to thank Shibaura Institute of Technology, Sakura Science and Japan Science and Technology Agency for the great experience in Japan. It has been a privilege to be part with this great workshop.
● Mr. Phisith SIHALARTH (Lecturer from Faculty of Architecture, NUOL)
The new experience I’ve got from working with Japanese Professor and students from this workshop made me look backward to the way I’ve used for teaching in my institution. As a lecturer, I’ve realized the term “GPBL- Global Problem Based Learning” is a necessary approach for present day education. Attending in the 2nd GPBL workshop in Tokyo, I’ve got a good experience and a chance to learn Japanese way of life, to know how they create the great country. My impressions occurring in the ten days are the admiration of the Japanese people for the others and the nature surround them. The Japanese have their own charming traditional way in living and working and they have always shown the high level of maintaining of social discipline.
I was impressed in the long vision, since the past time, of Japanese leaders, planning the areas for industrial zone as Tsukishima island. The combination of the Modern Architectures and traditional house of the local people in the area. The workshop gave an important experience for my students in working in team with the different culture partners. The places visited in this workshop gave the inspirations for my students and myself in terms of design and land management.
Finally, I would like to thank to JST program and SIT for giving us an opportunity to attend the workshop, and Prof. Shimizu and his team who are always taking care us warmly during the time spending in Tokyo.
