マレーシアの学生が日本で生物多様性の保全について学ぶ（その１）

札幌啓成高校
「マレーシア・サバ州の学生10名が先端技術を活用した生物多様性の保全に関する研究を学ぶ」
さくらサイエンスプログラムの招へいにより、マレーシア・サバ大学の学部生３名・大学院生２名、マレーシア・オールセインツ中等学校の高校性５名・教員１名が来日し、8日間(9/19～9/26)のプログラムがスタートしました。
１日目、マレーシアからの一行が千歳空港に到着。JRで札幌へ移動し受入れスタッフを紹介。疲れた様子もなくすぐに我々スタッフとも打ち解け、明日からの研修を楽しみにしながらホテルへ向かいました。

札幌に到着した印象
I was very excited to come to Japan as I have never been here before. My first impression is that the Japanese people are very polite and disciplined. The orientation was very well planned and it was interesting to get to know each other. I felt really welcomed. The food was delicious. I would definitely love to come to Japan again!（Pevanraj）
2日目、出発前に観光客おきまりの時計台で写真撮影。その後、本日の研修場所である酪農学園大学へ。午前中は、酪農学園大学の施設と日本の教会を見学しました。昼食時に、これから研修を一緒に行う本校生徒及び酪農学園大学の学生と初めての顔合わせを行いました。このプログラムでは、すべての研修を本校生徒と酪農大学の学生と合同で研修を受けることで、相互信頼の関係を構築することも目的としています。
午後は、酪農学園大学吉田剛司教授により、エゾシカ問題を例に、北海道の森林生態系と生物多様性ポットスポットに関する説明を受けました。引き続き、酪農学園大学金子正美教授により、ＧＩＳを活用して森林をモニタリングする方法の概要を学びました。研修の後、ホストファミリーとの対面式を行い、マレーシアの学生はホストファミリーとともに帰宅しました。

日本の教会の印象
We enjoyed the very simple church service. We appreciate the kind people there who made the atmosphere at the church very warm and homely. Although we do not understand the Japanese language, we respect the preacher in sharing God's ward that somehow touched some of our hearts.
It was a great time of fellowship with the brothers and sisters in Christ in Japan. We will surely remember and treasure our experience joining a Sunday service at a traditional church.（Shuyi）
3日目、午前中は、北海道大学地球環境科学研究院の根岸淳二郎准教授の指導により、水の安定同位体比分析により、水の循環をモニタリングする手法の講義を受けました。持続可能な地下水脈を確保するためには、水源となっている森林を守る必要があること、水の安定同位体比分析による水循環の研究は、流域が有する土壌、地質条件等の影響を受けないため有効な調査手法であることを学びました。

午後は、北海道大学創成研究機構宇宙ミッションセンターの高橋幸弘教授の指導により、衛星を活用したスペクトル分析により、森林をモニタリングする手法の講義を受けました。植物の葉のスペクトルを分析することにより、リモートセンシングで森林環境を監視することができることを学びました。

水の研修について
During the isotope analysis lesson, I have learned many new and useful things. One of them is on how to identify water from different sources. It was a very fun experience and I would like to see this kind of program in Malaysia too especially to the students. I also had the chance to see many types of machines and lab equipment used in determining the water sources. It was a very interesting experience. It was very useful too!（Myson）
スペクトルの研修について
Today lecture were really impressed me. The creation of microsatellite is a huge contribution to the science especially for conservation biology. The practical study on making the spectroscope was very interesting and this gave me opportunity to interact with Japanese student. I have fun during these lecture. (Sim)
生徒とのショッピングについて
It was very fun and interesting. The students were very friendly and helpful and made sure to take me to buy the things I wanted. Even though there was a slight language barrier, the students asked me to draw what I was describing so they could understand. All in all Shuyi, Madam Philonia and I had a great time and wish to visit the shopping mall again. Sapporo offers many interesting sights and outlets. The people were friendly too.（Tasha）
