SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program Group 3
Indian High School Students Interact with Students of Tsuchiura Second High School
On Thursday, August 21st, a group of 38 Indian high school students and supervisors visited Ibaraki Prefectural Tsuchiura Second Senior High School (hereafter Tsuchiura Second High School), where they were warmly welcomed by the students and deepened their cultural exchange through various activities.
After a greeting from Principal FUKAYA, Japanese and Indian students paired up one-on-one and took 15 minutes to introduce themselves using tablet devices and other tools. Each pair enjoyed lively conversations, sharing about their school lives and hobbies.
During the welcoming performance by the koto music club, the Indian students listened attentively to the beautiful harmony created by the many kotos playing together.
For the cultural exchange, the Indian students were divided into two groups to experience Japanese tea ceremony, calligraphy, and to watch the brass band club perform. During the tea ceremony, the Indian students earnestly tried to whisk matcha by imitating the example set by the Japanese students. Some displayed a range of expressions after tasting matcha tea for the first time, but these quickly turned into laughter.
During their calligraphy experience, the Indian students asked to write kanji characters, while the Japanese students learned Sanskrit characters from their Indian counterparts.
The brass band club performed pieces they had played in competitions. For the third-year students, it was a heartfelt final performance before their graduation.
At the closing ceremony of the event, both sides sang songs and expressed their gratitude, before taking a group photo to commemorate the day. The event was organized and hosted by the Tsuchiura Second High School's students themselves, making it a warm, handmade exchange that became an unforgettable memory for everyone involved. As the bus left the school, the Japanese and Indian students waved goodbye at each other for a long time, cherishing the bonds they had formed.
