SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program Group 1
Closing Ceremony & Farewell Party
On the afternoon of Friday, March 23, high school students from China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam who visited Japan on the SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program (SSHP) G1 attended the closing ceremony at the Japan Science and Technology Agency Tokyo Headquarters B1F Conference Room.
In the speeches given by the high school students representing their countries, they vividly described their experiences in the Sakura Science Program, which was a turning point in their lives and very significant for them.
■High School Student Representing China
During this week, we not only enjoyed Japan's unique culture but also learned about advanced technologies at JAXA and AIST. In addition, the experiences at the university of Tokyo and Waseda University presented me with beautiful campuses while reshaping my understanding of the society at the same time. What impressed me most was the special lecture of Prof. KAJITA Takaaki at Tokai University Takanawadai High School, which was so profound that every student was immersed in the content.
■High School Student Representing Indonesia
This journey has been nothing short of life changing. Learning from brilliant minds at AIST, JAXA, and Science Tokyo, we experienced science not as something distant, but as something alive and within reach. We also explored future academic opportunities through scholarship programs. There's a quote I once heard: "You are always one decision away from a different life." And we made that decision. As young global citizens, we will carry this journey forward with hope in our hearts and purpose in our steps.
■High School Student Representing Thailand
Over the past few days, we have not only explored cutting edge science and technology but also discovered the true value of cultural exchange, friendship, and international collaboration. From inspiring lectures and engaging hands-on experiments to eye opening visits to world class research institutions, this program has broadened our horizons and sparked dreams that will guide and grow with us as we step into the future with passion. Although we come from different countries and cultures, we've been united by a shared love for science, learning, and discovery. Let this not be the end, but the beginning!
■High School Student Representing Vietnam
More than just knowledge, we've learned how science thrives on collaboration across cultures, disciplines, and borders. The discussions and idea sharing with friends from Japan, Thailand, China, and Indonesia have shown us the power of diverse perspectives. When we return home, we hope to share these experiences with our peers. This program has not only nurtured our passion for science but also strengthened our aspiration to contribute to the global scientific community.
After the closing ceremony, high school students from each country performed songs and dances, and the students enjoyed their last moment in Japan in a friendly atmosphere. We sincerely look forward to seeing them again someday when they come to Japan once again as international students or researchers!
