SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program Group 1
International Students' Experiences at Science Tokyo
On Wednesday, May 21, members of the SSHP Group 1 high school students from Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam visited the Institute of Science Tokyo.
After an introduction of the university, including the Global Scientist and Engineer Program (GSEP) in which all subjects are taught in English, they were given a campus tour led by some of the university students. One of the guides was a student from Thailand who enrolled at Science Tokyo after experiencing the Sakura Science Program several years ago.
In the afternoon, they attended a mock lecture given by Prof. SUEKANE. During the Q&A session, questions about the laws of thermodynamics, energy efficiency, and solving social issues continued uninterrupted.
They then visited the Collaboration Center for Design and Manufacturing. Students from Science Tokyo who are competing in the Birdman Rally and Robocon introduced the human-powered planes and robots they have created to the high school students.
Finally, international students from Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam appeared as seniors. The high school students were able to talk about a variety of topics, ranging from the reason why they chose Science Tokyo for higher education to specifics about scholarships and club activities, in their native languages. One female international student said, "Japan's safety and the university's high international reputation helped me to persuade my parents."
This experience was surely a fulfilling day for them, enabling them to visualize their study and research life in Japan more concretely.
