Visit to the Latest Analytical Equipment at Horiba, Ltd.
On the morning of Wednesday, September 11, 55 university students from India visited Horiba Ltd. (Horiba, Ltd., Minami Ward, Kyoto City). The company is known globally as a leader in analytical and measurement systems. After deepening their understanding with the introduction of the Horiba Group, which has more than 40 bases around the world, Horiba India, which continues to make breakthroughs in India, and Horiba Techno Service, which is responsible for after-sales support, the students visited the office where the actual analytical equipment is setup for display. In the Hayabusa 2 project, the students were treated to a description of how Horiba also participated in the analyses of samples taken from the asteroid "Ryugu" and they listened attentively to an explanation at the site of analysis and measurement.
At the end of the tour, the students from India visited the "Analytical Solution Plaza," where the latest analytical instruments are setup. Here, approximately 25 analytical engineers perform demonstrations when selecting analytical equipment, commission analyses, and conduct joint research. Of particular interest to the students was Raman Spectroscopy which was developed by Dr. Raman of India, who was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics. There were even students who asked to see special components.
After taking a commemorative photo on the terrace overlooking the mountains surrounding Kyoto, the company visit was brought to a close.
