SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program Group 6

Visiting the Tokyo Gakugei University International Secondary School

On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 5, high school students from Ukraine, Egypt, Cyprus, Kenya, Colombia, Singapore, China, and South Africa visited the Tokyo Gakugei University International Secondary School (Nerima-ward, Tokyo) with the SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program (SSHP).

The overseas students were warmly welcomed by the Japanese students. They were divided into three groups and participated in activities with 4th and 5th-grade students as part of a program primarily organized by the student council. After introducing themselves, they enjoyed various activities, including games like handkerchief dropping (also known as Duck, Duck, Goose) and making paper airplanes.

Lastly, the 6th grade students and high school students from overseas gathered at the gymnasium and attended a special lecture given by FUJISHIMA Akira, Professor Emeritus at Tokyo University of Science and who is a leading scholar in photocatalyst research. In the Q&A session, many students interested in titanium dioxide coating, which "exerts the effect of photocatalysts in the reaction by ultraviolet rays and decomposes dirt," actively asked questions about its durability.

After the lecture, and after a greeting from the Singaporean students, it was completely dark when they left the gymnasium. However, the sight of students taking photos and chatting with one another was truly memorable.
