SAKURA SCIENCE High School Program Group 2
High School Students from Five Countries Including India Start with Orientation
As SSHP Group 2, high school students from India, Korea, Thailand, Brunei, and Kyrgyzstan came to Japan on Sunday, May 19. Their program started with orientation. The students were given detailed descriptions including an outline of the Sakura Science Program, customs in Japan, and precautions during their sojourn in Japan. The high school students checked one by one while reading their booklets.
This was followed by a "NASA game" of the future cram school program, which was introduced this year. This is actually a team-building game that is also done when training NASA astronauts. Students must think about how to overcome the emergency while discussing with each group under the assumption that their spacecraft suffered a malfunction as soon as they have landed on the moon as astronauts.
Most of the high school students were meeting for the first time because the seating was sorted in different ways rather than by country as in the orientation. At first, the students were hesitant to talk to each other, but as the discussion progressed, their apprehension gradually melted away. By the end of the game, their conversations had flourished in a friendly atmosphere, and a sense of unity as the Sakura Science Group seemed to have developed nicely.
In the coming week, through various experiences in Japan, the bonds between high school students from other countries will also be strengthened.
