Report from the Department of Social Welfare, Faculty of Health and Welfare, Kobe Women's University
Prof. IZUMI Taeko
With support from the Sakura Science Program in 2024, the Department of Social Welfare, Faculty of Health and Welfare at Kobe Women's University invited a total of four people to participate in a training program on Japanese-style welfare: two fourth-year students and one faculty member from the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and one fourth-year student from the Department of Nursing at the Bali Institute of Technology.
Udayana University and our university signed an academic exchange agreement in January 2010, and we have continued to exchange students and conduct international joint research. This year, we plan to sign a new academic agreement with Bali Institute of Technology Health University, and we are looking forward to further development of international exchange.

The four students, who specialize in nursing, spent ten days at our university from January 7th (Tue) to 16th (Thu), learning about the mechanisms and principles of "Japanese-style welfare", and in practical training, they experienced "the latest Japanese welfare equipment".

After learning new knowledge and skills, the four students participated in a program that took them to welfare facilities in Hyogo Prefecture and cultural facilities in Kyoto, Nara and Himeji.
At welfare facilities in Hyogo Prefecture, they also participated in "Laughter Yoga" and "Dementia Salons" that are being put into practice as part of community-based care, and visited various welfare facilities such as geriatric health service facilities, geriatric welfare facilities, and small-scale multi-functional facilities, as well as interacting with facility staff.
The latest welfare equipment was explained. The participants actually experienced welfare equipment that is easy to use for both parties involved and their supporters.

Kobe, which experienced the earthquake, has the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution, where people can learn about risk management ahead of the rest of the world. For the people of Indonesia, which also experiences frequent earthquakes, it was a valuable learning experience.

The students were able to enjoy the opportunity to experience Japanese culture by participating in a tea ceremony hosted by the tea ceremony club at the university, and deepen their exchanges with each other.

They pledged to apply what he learned in Japan to his future nursing education to further deepen their expertise.
