Activity Report of Open Application Course vol.22
Japan and Vietnam interchange technologies to learn cutting edge techonologies and research
Report from Kogakuin University
Supported by the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science, Kogakuin University invited 10 students and two faculty members (one paied own expenses) from the faculty of IT of the University of Danang Vietnam, total of 12, to the Department of Information and Communications Engineering for eight days from July 27th to August 3rd, 2018. We have conducted an international exchange program to introduce cutting edge technologies and research.
In this program, they participated in the lectures, discussions, field work, exchanges with students of Kogakuin University, tours of science and technology facilities, etc., including visiting our laboratory and experiement facilities.
On July 27th, the group from the University of Danang arrived Narita International Airport and then headed to the Hachioji Campus of Kogakuin University. They participated in the orientation and the tour on the Hachioji Campus. Also, they had some interactions with other students who happened to be visiting Japan from different programs.
In the program, students from Kogakuin University as well as the University of Danang participated in a programming competition. They were working on the programming really hard. Students were awarded for the Programing Competition on the last day.
On the laboratory visit, they tried VR studio and VR theater at the new building completed just last April. At the laboratory of IT faculty, they participated in a lecutre and other experiences. We also conducted the same at the laboratory of the Shinjuku building, and they were introduced to robot sailing at Tachibana Associate Professor’s laboratory, and tried to sail it in the Saiko Lake in Saitama Prefecture. They earnestly engaged in the visits to the laboratories, lectures and experiences, and were actively exchanging the ideas.
We also held a program at Fujiyoshida seminar house of our university. On the way to Fujiyoshida, they stopped by Fuji Mt. Fuji World Heritage Center, Shizuoka, which has an academic research function of Mt. Fuji (World Heritage). They also visited Japanese ancient buildings such as Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha, and learned Japanese culture . Students from Kogakuin University and the University of Danang had interaction with each other as well as discussions at Fujiyoshida seminar house. They also learned cutting-edge technologies by visiting Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center.
This program seemed to have a big impact on not only the invited students from the University of Danang but the students from Kogakuin University who had been supporting this program. Although it was a short period of interaction, they both seemed to have a strong interest and a good impression of each other on their lives and cultures in different countries. The students who supported the program also learned a lot from the students from the University of Danang of their approach to the studies. They were getting more eager to support the program as days go by, and started have an interest on Vietnam. That is the big change for them.
At last, we appreciate the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science giving us the opportunity to make a contribution to bring two countries together and closer through education even though it is a little thing.
