Activity Report of Open Application Course vol.14
Joint research program with graduate students, postdoctoral students and academics from India
Report from Okayama University
From September 4 to 11, 2017, exchange activities were held between the University of Hyderabad (Department of Plant Sciences) and Okayama Univ. (Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science, Institute of Plant Science and Resources, and Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology).
On September 6, the group toured the Institute of Plant Science and Resources (IPSR) on the Kurashiki Campus. The group of Indian students visiting Japan was composed of graduate students and postdoctoral students majoring in plant science. As expected, everyone asked many questions and it was a very meaningful tour.
A two-day India-Japan Joint Sakura Science Symposium was held on September 7 and 8. Presentations were given by nine Indian students and nine members of Okayama Univ. A lively Q&A session was held after the presentations. Discussion continued even after the symposium had ended.
On the weekend, the group traveled to Kyoto and Hiroshima in order to experience Japanese culture and history. Some members of the group were vegetarians and therefore could not eat Japanese soup stock that is made using meat, so they had trouble with Japanese food. Other members of the group enjoyed trying many different kinds of Japanese cuisine.
One Indian student who is in the doctoral program is searching for a postdoctoral position and expressed interest in conducting research in Japan. If possible, we look forward to the student joining our laboratory.
