Useful, lively, and enjoyable assembly and report meeting of the Third Session
Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)
On August 8, the 120 high school students chosen as special candidates for careers in science and technology and as participants in the third session of the High School Student Special Course (Sakura Science Exchange Program) assembled to present summary reports on the course at JICA Tokyo International Training Center. A student and a group leader/teacher from each of the eight participating countries related their memories and impressions.
Initially, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology thanked the students who participated in the first Sakura Science Exchange Program exchange program and expressed the desire for further development of this project in the future. After the opening speech, a high school student from each of the eight participating countries presented his/her impressions and expressed thanks for the opportunity to visit Japan through the Sakura Science Exchange Program.
Students shared their excitement about engaging in direct contact with Japan’s leading-edge science and technology experts through their visits to universities, research institutions, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), etc. Further, some expressed their desire to stay longer in Japan.
The teachers who led students from their countries also showed admiration for Japan’s high level of commitment to science and technology. They expressed thanks to the program organizers for providing an effective stimulus for their students to pursue careers in science and technology.
Later, Mr. Fumiaki Takahashi, a JST senior fellow, handed certificates of completion to the students. Before the closing ceremony, commemorative photos were taken with groups from each country.
