Impressions on the time spent with the participants from Vietnam who came through the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science
All the participants of the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science arrived at Teikyo University from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam on October 16th (Monday). In Japan, it was typhoon season, with lots of rain, and the temperature was also low. It seems that Vietnam was warm, as some people were in summer clothes and in sandals with bare feet, and we were concerned that it might be cold for them. We guided them to the convenience store at the university. It seems that they did not bring umbrellas, and the first items they bought were folding umbrellas.
On October 21st (Saturday), We accompanied them on the visit to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). It rained on that day also. We left the accommodation hotel around 9 o’clock and went to Odaiba Telecom Center by the JR and Yurikamome line. Although it was a Saturday, JR railway carriages were overcrowded. Everyone from Vietnam experienced rush hour in Japan.
Free visit at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. Lunch was at the restaurant on the 7th floor. It was very convenient, as an English menu was available during ordering. Everyone from Vietnam was able to eat Japanese food without problems, and so each one seemed to have eaten a variety of food. After the meal, we watched “The Man from the 9 Dimensions” at the 6th floor dome theater, one of the recommendations of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). Here also, English earphones were available, and hence they could understand the contents and enjoyed it very much.
Members of the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science were very enthusiastic and participated in question and answer sessions wherever they went for the training, and we strongly felt the aspirations of the Vietnamese people.
