Korean student learns about Japanese medical examination technologies and culture
Report from Fukuoka Dental College
A student and a faculty member from Kyung Hee University of the Republic of Korea were invited to attend the Exchange Program for six days from the 4th to the 9th of February 2018.
The purpose of this training was to promote exchange between students and researchers of these universities, including collaboration in basic medicine and clinical research, etc., based on the agreement between these two sister universities. During his stay, the student visited basic research laboratories and participated in clinical training at the Medical and Dental Hospital of Fukuoka Dental College. For the purpose becoming familiar with Japanese culture, the student also visited Kushida Shrine (Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi) and participated in the Hakata Doll painting experience.
On February 5, an introductory ceremony was held, visits were made to the Medical and Dental Hospital and basic research laboratories of Fukuoka Dental College, and lectures were held. A welcome party was held on the same day to deepen the exchanges between students and faculty members of these universities.

From February 6 onwards, they visited Periodontology, Image Diagnostics, Fixed Prosthodontics, Removal Prosthodontics, Geriatric, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry Sections, etc. to see laboratories and medical examination rooms and receive clinical training and lectures. By actually observing medical examinations of patients, they were able to take a close look at the latest medical examination technologies. In addition, they were able to experience training using implant models and training in the robot simulation room.

On February 8, a completion ceremony was held, and a certificate was handed to the Kyung Hee University student by the Dean of Fukuoka Dental College.

The student also visited the Center for Oral Diseases of Fukuoka Dental College located near Hakata Station on the same day. The student received a lecture by the Director of the Center in the seminar room of the said facility, and then visited the medical examination room and surgery room, etc.

After visiting the Center for Oral Diseases of Fukuoka Dental College, students/faculty members of Kyung Hee University and Fukuoka Dental College took a sightseeing tour of the city of Fukuoka. They visited Kushida Shrine where Hakata Gion Yamakasa is dedicated and a kazari (decorated) yamakasa is displayed throughout the year to gain exposure to Japanese culture and history. They also participated in the Hakata Doll painting experience. The Program enabled a deepening of the knowledge of Japanese traditional craft Hakata Doll and the culture of Fukuoka. They could take the Dolls back as souvenirs for the valuable memories of Japan.

During the training period, they interacted with students and faculty members of Fukuoka Dental College in various ways and had fruitful exchanges by dining together, and through facility tours, lectures, and a sightseeing tour of the city of Fukuoka. Students and faculty members of Fukuoka Dental College who have previously visited Kyung Hee University served as caretakers to enable more in-depth communication. Even outside the scheduled program, students of both universities actively interacted.
