Arrival of third group of 120 for High School Student Special Course

On August 3, a sweltering hot day, the third group participating in the High School Student Special Course arrived in Tokyo. There are 120 high school students in all, from the Philippines, Mongolia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea and Thailand.

Students from Mongolia also arrived in good health.

All the members of the party checked in at the JICA Tokyo International Center in Shibuya-ku without showing any sign of fatigue

Students from Thailand arrived last on that day. All of them entered their rooms at the Center in an animated manner.

Losing no time, the orientation ceremony was held, beginning with Mr. Eisuke Nimura making a welcome speech on behalf of JST.

JST Associate Director Nimura of giving everyone a whole-hearted welcome to Japan

Mr. Nimura said to the students, “Please observe and study the innovative scientific and engineering research being conducted at sites in Japanese universities and research institutes that we will show you. You will also be given special lectures by Nobel Laureates. Please enjoy your stay in Japan while taking care of your health in this sweltering hot weather”.

For the prevention of heat stroke, parasols were offered to students without a hat or umbrella, to their surprise and delight.80 percent of them took up the offer and borrowed parasols.
