Report from Kyoto University
I had a pleasure to host at the Graduate School of Informatics of Kyoto University a group of graduate students from Nankai University between July 21st and July 30th, 2017. 9 students and two faculty members of the Institute of Computer and Control Engineering came to visit Kyoto University, exchange research ideas and findings as well as to learn about Japanese culture and lifestyle.
During several research meetings at Kyoto University our guests had a chance to present their research as well as to listen to presentations of several graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from the Department of Social Informatics of Kyoto University. In addition, we visited Kyoto Sangyo University where our guests could have a chance to listen to talks by the researchers working at the Division of Frontiers Informatics of Kyoto Sangyo University.
＜Campus tours and university life experience＞
The invited students could visit campuses and observe student life at Kyoto University as well as at Kyoto Sangyo University. Graduate students from Kyoto University were acting as guides for our visitors showing them the campus and explaining history of the university. In addition, the visiting students participated in a weekly lab meeting in order to observe the style of research discussions and guidance at Kyoto University.
Besides visiting famous sightseeing spots in Kyoto we also went to Kurama area which is located north of Kyoto city. Our guests could experience a Japanese onsen, wear traditional yukata and eat kaiseki food.
On another day the group have visited Osaka and went to the museum of science in Osaka city. Finally, our guests went to Nara area and could visit famous temples there.
